About this project

The Spirit Horse Club home page with the headline “A thoughtful home for people who care about horses” The Find Places to Ride page: “Discover riding centres, schools and livery yards across the UK” The Knowledge Base page: “Equine knowledge and education, clearly organised” The Practical Guides page: “Practical, trusted guidance for every stage of horse ownership”

A slow tour of the live site. Hover to pause.

The idea was a lovely one: an online club for the horse world. Not a brochure site, but a proper web application, a private and welcoming place where owners, riders and equestrian businesses could keep everything about their horses together and share it only with the people they trust. We designed and built the whole thing, from the first sketch to the working site.

At its heart, every horse gets a private digital home of its own, wrapped in a privacy-first design with clear boundaries between what is public and what is not. Around that sit tools for professionals and businesses, a public directory of places to ride across the UK, and a free library of guides and articles that anyone can read.

What the site includes

  • Private member accounts, with a digital home for each horse: profiles, photographs, documents, competition records, care and medical history, calendars and reminders.
  • Weather Check for privately selected and shared locations.
  • Precise sharing controls: care-circle approvals, private “Horse Data” cards, and exact permissions granted to trusted people and professionals.
  • Business accounts for professionals, suppliers, yards and riding businesses, with reusable private business details, authorised riding-place listings, proposed care records, and itemised invoices when an owner grants permission.
  • A public UK directory of riding centres, schools and livery yards.
  • Public Practical Guides and a Knowledge Base of more than 610 original articles across 16 collections, free to read with no registration needed.
  • Community features: trusted connections and chat, where a connection never reveals a horse record.
  • Privacy-first throughout, with optional analytics behind an explicit consent choice, so “essential only” works fully.
  • Web application
  • Member accounts
  • Searchable directory
  • Content library
  • Community & chat
  • Privacy-first design
